Wabtec Expanding M/W Business

Wabtec Corporation on Nov. 17 reported the addition of Brazil-based Super Metal to its maintenance-of-way (m/w) business. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. The move complements Wabtec’s 2021 acquisition of Nordco—a supplier of new, rebuilt and used maintenance-of-way equipment, with a product and service portfolio that includes mobile railcar movers and ultrasonic rail flaw detection technologies—and its existing Contagem, Brazil plant, which in August celebrated 60 years of locomotive production.

Oak Ridge, Argonne collaborate with Wabtec on hydrogen-powered trains to decarbonize rail industry

First Wabtec AC44C6Ms Arrive at CN

The first two of CN’s 50-unit order of AC44C6M remanufactured locomotives from Wabtec have arrived in Canada. Rebuilt at Wabtec’s Fort Worth, Tex., plant from GE C44-9Ws built in the late 1990s, these units have been upgraded to 4,500 hp (from 4,400), with up to 25%, increased fuel efficiency, 40% increased reliability and reduction in maintenance and repairs with modernized control systems.

Wabtec marks 10th anniversary of Fort Worth plant

FORT WORTH, Texas — Wabtec has celebrated the 10th anniversary of its manufacturing operations in Fort Worth, having opened a 1-million-square-foot locomotive plant and 250,000-square-foot mining-equipment facility in October 2012.
